Psychological Testing for Accommodations in Carmel & Greater Indianapolis

Accommodations for Standardized Tests

Standardized tests are a critical gateway to academic and professional opportunities, yet their rigid formats can disadvantage individuals with unique learning profiles, such as dyslexia, attention difficulties, anxiety, or other challenges. At the Sycamore Center for Assessment and Psychological Services, we specialize in psychological testing and assessment and can support requests for accommodations on major standardized tests such as the LSAT, MCAT, GRE, GMAT, SAT, ACT, and Bar Exams. Our goal is to help ensure that all test-takers have an equitable opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

Why Pursue Accommodations?

Accommodations, like extended time, breaks, or access to a quiet testing environment, can make a significant difference for individuals with learning differences, ADHD, test anxiety, or other challenges. These adjustments level the playing field, allowing you to focus on the content of the exam rather than struggling against time constraints or environmental distractions. It’s not about seeking an advantage—it’s about ensuring a fair chance to succeed.

If you’ve experienced difficulty finishing practice tests on time or noticed that your performance improves significantly in less stressful conditions, you may be eligible for accommodations. A psychological evaluation can help determine eligibility and provide the required documentation to support your request.

What to Expect from the Evaluation Process

At Sycamore CAPS, we conduct thorough evaluations tailored to the requirements of the testing organizations. Our process typically includes:

  1. Clinical Interview – We begin with a detailed conversation about your academic, personal, and testing history to understand your challenges and goals.

  2. Record Review - If you’ve ever had an IEP, 504 plan, testing accommodations, or a previous diagnosis by another provider, reviewing these records can be important for establishing the history and consistency of your difficulties. We carefully examine relevant documentation to support a well-rounded and evidence-based evaluation.

  3. Psychological Testing – We utilize standardized assessments to evaluate factors like attention, memory, processing speed, and other areas relevant to learning and test-taking.

  4. Detailed Report – We prepare a comprehensive evaluation report that meets the documentation standards of your specific exam, whether it’s the LSAT, MCAT, or another test.

  5. Feedback Session (optional) – We’ll review the results with you, answer your questions, and provide guidance on the next steps for submitting your accommodation request.
